Chivalry is NOT dead!

Let’s talk about chivalry

I think it sounds cool, and has a certain powerful weight to it. Some may think it sounds dated and old fashioned….but please, read on and decide for yourself.

Chivalry is a term that has been used for centuries to describe the code of conduct that knights were expected to follow. The origins of chivalry can be traced back to the medieval period, when knights were the elite warriors of their time, protecting and fighting for good. The code of chivalry was a set of rules that knights were expected to follow, which included bravery, loyalty, and honour.

The history of chivalry is a long and complex one. It began in the 12th century, when knights were first recognised as a distinct class of warriors. The code of chivalry was developed over time, and it was influenced by a number of different factors, including religion, literature, and social norms.

In the 21st century, chivalry is still an important concept, although its meaning has evolved over time. Today, chivalry is often associated with being a gentleman, and it is seen as a way of showing respect and consideration for others. Pretty important stuff.

One of the most important aspects of chivalry in the 21st century is the idea of respect. This means treating others with kindness and consideration, and showing respect for their feelings and opinions. It also means being polite and courteous, and showing good manners in all situations.

Another important aspect of chivalry in the 21st century is the idea of honour. This means being true to your word, and doing what you say you will do. It also means being honest and trustworthy (perhaps not a lot of chivalry in politics  these days?), and standing up for what you believe in. Let’s go deeper on honour….

For all the good manners, empathy, and respect a gentleman displays, there will be times when he needs to vigorously protect his honour, and the honour of those he holds close. I believe a gentleman should stand firm and fight for this honour, and although fisticuffs is a last resort, damn it, if it’s going to end a bad situation so be it! I personally have, a few times over the years, been put in situations where I’ve needed to protect the person I’ve been with from verbal dishonour and/or physical assault…that is when a gentleman stands up. Bullying is NOT a trait of a gentleman, nor any decent person, so when it rears its ugly head, we should finish it off quickly.

So, to conclude, chivalry is an important concept that has evolved over time. While its origins can be traced back to the medieval period, its meaning has changed to reflect the values and norms of modern society. In the 21st century, chivalry is about showing respect, honour, and consideration for others, and it is an important part of being a gentleman. By embracing the principles of chivalry, we can help to create a more just and equitable society, where all can be  treated with kindness and respect.

In a world of deception, lies, falseness, selfishness and extreme vanity a chivalrous gentleman may be that rare in a room full of people that he may stand out. Stand out gents! Stand up and be upstanding!  I can assure you it will not go unnoticed nor unappreciated.
